Good News :)

So this weekend i had a phone call from my bestest friend in the whole world with good news for me. I had no idea what was coming, normally good news is coming to see me or she has her college work done...this time it was totally different to either! I did not have to sit and listen to her chatting away like normal,  it was my turn to chat and ask about things.
She asked if i would like to photographer her brother's wedding next year :) i was completely shocked at this question she had just put upon me... am i really that good a photographer?? Will i cock it up?? So i agreed to do this for them. This will be my first wedding EVER.. considering i normally photograph landscape, environment, bands and a few studio fashion shoots. It's not until June next year so i need to prep myself for it by getting some new add-ons for my camera so i don't look like a right amateur turning up with just my camera.

Things to get:
Tripod
Wide Angle Lens
Flash Gun (decent one)
Extra Battery Pack (attachable to bottom)

VERY excited about this. Cannot wait.
So after that phone call it put me in a very good mood for the rest of the weekend. Also now have to start practising some hair and make-up techniques because i am hoping to get onto a creative hair and media make-up course instead of University which i am currently boring my way through at the moment.

Higher education for photography is a load of rubbish....why should you get a piece of paper with your name on it and a PASS,2:2,2:1  or 1st on it to prove you are a good photographer?? Why do you need that closure?

Surely your own ability to photograph comes from practice and skill of ones self rather than sitting in a classroom for hours a week learning about other photographers and trying to emulate their work for 3 sad old men who gave up a photography dream about 20 years ago to criticize what you have done wrong.... I don't think so. So therefore if you want people to have a go at you and make you do something you do not want to do in the photographic world...then Uni is defiantly for you...as for me i think it is a load of rubbish to sit there and limit your skill, passion and ability. So higher education in photography can get fucked, i do not need a bit of paper proving that i can point and shoot. Employers want creative flair and inspirational young people who can be moulded and step outside the box, and that people is defiantly something that will NOT come from a bit of paper.

Holidays are coming

So basically today is not fully photography based. I have been thinking a lot about the Christmas holiday, as i will be leaving university to wonder down south of the UK and go home to Didcot. It will be an experience of interest as the routine of Christmas will be the same as always, however, everyone is a tad wiser and has something different to say about the year. The interest will be in what my grandparents have to say about everything as i converse with them about my photography work and projects that i am planning on doing. Although my time at home will be filled with smiles and laughter because they hardly get to see me. My dog is one member of the family i am missing, ok i speak to my mum everyday but a dog doesn't talk.
Just to get into a Christmas mood here are some photos. I love Christmas....its always a nice time of year to be with family and the loved ones in your life.

Cindy Sherman is a photographer that i am very interested in today. I have been consulting in my best friend Google to give me information on her and low and behold did not fail me. She conducted self portraits in certain situations. It confides with my project of fear that i want to do. I want to do a self portrait of the things i am scared of and manipulate them a tad to look scary to viewers....
Sherman's work.....

What do you guys think???

First Post.

Okay so this is my first post.

I'm Amy, 19 years old and as you can gather a photographer. Photography pretty much became my life at the age of 15 when i started going out with friends. Just taking the odd snaps of parties and things that happened. Now i take photographs of most things. I am currently undergoing a photography degree in Chester, well i say its a photography degree....but its more defined. "Fine Art Photography"...which has a lot of different meanings to different people. What does Fine Art Photography mean to you?? (post in comments) Fine Art photography to me is attention to details and creativity with subject matter. Although my lecturers seem to have a different idea of this, so i can never win with my subject matter.

On to business....
I put this up because i want to get noticed and for the world to see things how i see them. Small projects will be posted and random photographs that i have taken through the day or week shall be put up for your criticism, all posts welcome. Also photographs by other people that i find interesting or want to chat about in general.

It's my first time blogging to so i am completely new to this but people say its easy...so i guess i shall just wait and see. So far so good. If you read this and want to see some of my work then its on facebook (Amy Brant Photography) and www.myspace.com/abphotouk. I want to specialise in live music and fashion photography as these are the two types of subject matter that i enjoy shooting the most. At the moment its here and there with photographing bands and doing some fashion shoots when i get the time....non commission at the moment too as i want the experience more than anything.

That's a bit about me and my photographic life....
